On the occasion of the 130th birthday of Franz von Zülow, an artist shaped by a fashionable inclination toward rural life and the reflection of rural heritage, works on paper from the MAK collection and the artist´s estate will be exhibited. Von Zülow did his training at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Vienna, where he already created illustrations and designs for the Wiener Werkstätte. Active in many areas, Zülow designed textile patterns, carpets, ceramics, and interiors and developed new graphic techniques. His most important achievements in this area are the monthly pen-in-ink-drawn notebooks produced in a paper-cut stencil printing process from 1909 to 1915, subscribed to by artists such as Hoffmann, Klimt, and Schiele. Clearly evident in these works is his decorative, Jugendstil- derived surface art, which he combined with folk art inspirations. Arising at the same time were stage-like watercolors and scenic picture books along the lines of a diorama in expressive style.

As part of the bookseries MAK Studies, a catalogue will be published in conjunction with the exhibition.

The exhibition "Empremtes: Lluís Domènech i Montaner a Canet de Mar" (Traces: Lluís Domènech i Montaner in Canet de Mar), organised by the Lluís Domènech i Montaner House Museum in Canet de Mar, analyses the deep relationship between the architect and this town.

The search for beauty, utility and comfort and a certain element of exhibitionistic luxury are essentials of Modernism, as found in the interiors of bourgeois housing.
Together with architects, carpenter-decorators became a fashionable profession, receiving commissions from the bourgeois and concerning themselves with the furniture design and decoration of the houses; a reflection of the tastes of the time and the new way of living. Gaspar Homar and Joan Busquets are two outstanding examples of this profession. The Museu Nacional d´Art de Catalunya holds a notable range their work, both projects and furniture.

This year marks the 150th birthday of Edvard Munch. One of the highlights of this anniversary is the exhibition "Munch on paper", which presents Edvard Munch´s diverse and rich oeurvre of works on paper.
Besides presenting key images, the exhibition will also show more or less unknown works and curiosities which give fascinating insights into Edvard Munch´s life and work, says the Sture Portvik, press officer of the Munch Museum.

The Foreign Languages Academic Staff of the Department of Marketing and International Business, Faculty of Economics and Business Administration - West University of Timisoara/ Romania is honored to invite you to attend the International Workshop "From management culture to cultural management", which will be held in Timisoara, from 14th to 15th  November 2013.

The international workshop will be held in the beautiful city situated on the Bega river, a multicultural city, emblematic for the history, economic dynamics, cultural and social development of Romania. The main purpose of the colloquium is to bring together researchers, experts, mayors and students to debate and exchange opinions on the current trends, issues and possible solutions in management culture, cultural management, cultural marketing, and cross-cultural communication.

The workshop has also a pragmatic purpose, trying to implement skills and know-how in the field of cultural management, cultural marketing and marketing of cultural tourism in order to value the Secession architectural heritage of Timisoara, recommend reliable solutions to restore this heritage, promote Timisoara's cultural image- once called "Little Vienna" - and include it into the networks of European cities with Art Nouveau architecture (Réseau Art Nouveau Network and  Art Nouveau European Route).

The show brings together an outstanding series of engravings by the artist Ismael Smith in a style combining Modernisme, Noucentisme and Art Déco. It is completed by a series of bookplates and story illustrations and expanded by a selection of Goya engravings that influenced Smith, as well as some pieces showing the friendship and special connection between Smith and Marià Andreu  Mataró artist.

The exhibition is curated by Txema Romero, Director of Cerdanyola Art Musem.

This exhibition presents a representative selection of English fabrics from the MAK Collection of Textiles and Carpets. These textiles were purchased in England for the museum and presented to the Viennese public while they were still new. Hence, Vienna´s artists and tradespeople got to know and took inspiration from these innovative, English-designed products even prior to 1900, as is shown prominently in the new Vienna 1900 exhibit of the MAK Permanent Collection. The best-known English designers of their era, figures including William Morris, Walter Crane and Charles F. A. Voysey, are represented in this showing by fabric and wallpaper designs characterized above all by generously dimensioned repeat patterns as well as patterns derived from plants and flowers.

In 2013 all of Norway is celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of Edvard Munch (1863-1944), one of the towering figures of modern art.

The exhibition "Munch 150", co-hosted by the National Museum and the Munch Museum, is the most ambitious presentation of Munch´s art ever, and with 220 paintings it displays the greatest number of Munch´s key works in modern times. Highlights of the exhibition include near-complete reconstructions of The Frieze of Life (1902) and The Reinhardt Frieze (1906-1907). One of the aims of the exhibition is to inspire visitors to discover "their own Munch" as an ever experimenting, innovative, and relevant artist.

"Munch 150" is shown in to two venues: Works from 1882-1903 are displayed in the National Gallery and works from 1904-1944 in the Munch Museum.

The goal of this exchange day is to compare the legislations used in different European countries and possibly to see the evolution of legislations in Europe since the first multilateral exchange on the same topic (Brussels, December 2010). The interesting issue of the Art Nouveau heritage restoration will also be part of the topic of this day.
The informal meeting, practical and in a small group will allow a direct dialogue and a sharing of knowledge between interested co-organisers and professionals. A great space will be dedicated to practical presentations (for example PowerPoint Presentation, administrative files, city budgets dedicated to restoration of listed buildings, etc?), questions and debates.
The presentations on protection polities and financial supports can be done at the level of listed buildings in the city scale or can be a specific study case concerning one Art Nouveau listed building.

La Obra Social "la Caixa" presenta una exquisita selección de 60 obras procedentes de la colección de la baronesa Carmen Thyssen. Se trata de un recorrido estructurado en torno al paisaje catalán entre 1850 y 1950 que aprovecha la propia riqueza de los fondos de la colección para establecer diálogos y nexos con el arte internacional más próximo a él.
Es una oportunidad única para adentrarse en lo que supuso la evolución del tratamiento del paisaje que, libre de la reglamentación de la pintura de historia y del retrato, fue el género que más evolucionó a lo largo del siglo xix. Buena parte de ese desarrollo se debió a la práctica de la pintura al aire libre, que revolucionó el paisajismo tradicional.
El impresionismo supuso una de las transformaciones más profundas de la historia de la pintura occidental. La difusión del impresionismo coincidió con la expansión económica y demográfica de Barcelona, y su mirada hacia París como ejemplo de modernidad, también para las nuevas generaciones de jóvenes artistas.
Ya en el siglo xx en Francia, Italia y Alemania hicieron su irrupción las primeras vanguardias. Lo que primó a partir de entonces fue el deseo de explorar nuevas vías de experimentación plástica al margen de pasado.
Obras de artistas como Rusiñol, Monet, Matisse, Mir, Meifrén o Miró serán el hilo conductor de un recorrido organizado en cinco ámbitos de clara voluntad didáctica.

In the framework of the European project Partage Plus, aimed towards the distribution and valorization of the Art nouveau heritage, IRPA-KIK organizes a conference on the morning of Tuesday 26 February 2013. This is followed in the afternoon by a complementary part organized by the Royal Museums of Art and History.
This very extensive theme comprises numerous facets of Art nouveau, from documentary aspects to conservation and restoration. Communications will be presented by personnel of IRPA-KIK and by speakers from other institutions with the aim to cover the broad palette of researches, studies and restorations carried out in this domain in Belgium.

Previous exhibitions on the theme of nudity have mostly been limited to female nudes. With the presentation "naked men" in the autumn of 2012 the Leopold Museum will be showing a long overdue exhibition on the diverse and changing depictions of naked men from 1800 to the present.

Thanks to loans from all over Europe, the exhibition "naked men" will offer an unprecedented overview of the depiction of male nudes. Starting with the period of Enlightenment in the 18th century, the presentation will focus mainly on the time around 1800, on tendencies of Salon Art, as well as on art around 1900 and after 1945. At the same time, the exhibition will also feature important reference works from ancient Egypt, examples of Greek vase painting and works from the Renaissance. Spanning two centuries, the presentation will show different artistic approaches to the subject, competing ideas of the ideal male model as well as changes in the concept of beauty, body image and values.

In the framework of the project Art Nouveau & Ecology supported by the programme Culture 2007-2013 of the European Commission, The Réseau Art Nouveau Network, as a network of cities aiming to preserve, study and promote Art Nouveau at a European scale, organises a one-day symposium on January 26th 2013 on Raw materials and Art Nouveau.!

"Ferdinand Hodler: View to Infinity" will be the largest American exhibition ever devoted to this major Swiss artist. Hodler was admired by such Austrian artists as Gustav Klimt and Egon Schiele, whose work is essential to the Neue Galerie collection. The organizing curator for the Neue Galerie is Jill Lloyd, a distinguished scholar who has assembled several important shows for the museum, including "Van Gogh and Expressionism". The exhibition is co-organized by the Fondation Beyeler, Basel, where it will be on view from January 27 to May 26, 2013. The organizing curator for the Beyeler is Ulf Küster.

La exposición, que consta de 52 piezas originales de Antoni Samarra (33 óleos, 16 dibujos y 3 esculturas), conmemora la primera muestra de pintura celebrada en Canet de Mar, una exposición de obras de este artista que se inauguró el 21 de abril de 1912 (hace ahora 100 años) y que estuvo organizada por el Foment Catalanista, entonces propietario del edificio construido por Lluís Domènech i Montaner que actualmente es la Biblioteca P. Gual i Pujadas.

La exposición de 1912 fue solo de pinturas, aunque por aquel entonces Samarra trabajaba como escultor en el castillo de Santa Florentina de Canet.

Durante su estancia en Canet, el artista de Ponts estableció fuertes vínculos tanto con el pueblo como con Lluís Domènech i Montaner y participó activamente en todas las manifestaciones culturales del momento.

A pesar de estar muy bien considerado por la crítica como pintor y de apuntar un gran futuro como artista, Antoni Samarra se suicidó dos años más tarde en el castillo de Burriac del Maresme.

La muestra "Antoni Samarra, 100 años después" está organizada por el Ayuntamiento de Canet de Mar, el Ayuntamiento de Ponts, el Museo de Arte Jaume Morera (Ayuntamiento de Lérida), la Casa Museo Lluís Domènech i Montaner, con la colaboración de Jordi Vidal, conservador de arte y comisario de la exposición, y Vicente de la Fuente, historiador del arte.
