A pupil of La Llotja, the Barcelona School of Fine Arts, and the Baixas Academy, he soon began contributing to the magazines Hispania, El Gato Negro and La Il·lustració Catalana in Barcelona. In 1900 he moved to Paris where he achieved great popularity and did work for French magazines such as Le Rire and German magazines such as Jugend.

It is his technique which places him close to Modernisme, whereas he focused on two subjects that were extremely fashionable in France: views of Paris and Spanish themes. He also designed a number of posters.

In Barcelona he held several individual exhibitions, but he did not have the same success as in Paris.
