He attended Pere Borrell´s academy when he had already presented a drawing at the Barcelona Exhibition of 1894, and with other fellow students he founded the group of painters known as El Rovell de l´Ou. Not long after this he went to Rome to further his training with the painter Ramon Tusquets.

He lived for many years in Paris, where he showed a preference for subjects connected with the city, both its night life and its spaces (El Sena [The Seine], 1900-1901; MNAC collection), making use of a strictly Impressionist technique. In spite of living in France, he did not sever his ties with the artistic life of Catalonia and continued to hold exhibitions there. In 1903 he staged a highly successful exhibition at Sala Parés and achieved recognition as a painter. He took part in the first exhibition put on by the Saló de les Arts i els Artistes (Arts and Artists Salon).

Set within the framework of Post-Modernisme, his work, mainly on urban themes, evolved towards Impressionism.

He returned to Barcelona for good in 1939, where he had had a studio built many years before.
